Miley Cyrus’ “Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions)” incorporates a pool, terrace, lounging places, strolling paths lined with native plants, and Mid-Century Modern structures in the opening scene. The white-clad pop chanteuse is accompanied by the Santa Monica and San Gabriel mountains, which are also visible in the distance.
The Farralone House was designed by renowned architect William Pereira in 1951 for banking heiress Dora Hutchinson. According to the listing with Mike Deasy of DPP Real Estate, it has apparently served as a haven for famous people ever since, including Frank Sinatra (who lived there in the 1950s and 1960s), Judy Garland, and Lucille Ball.
In an email, DPP Chairman Mr. Deasy wrote, “Farralone presents a rare and brilliant hilltop exposition of the post-war California Bauhaus by a master architect.”
The 14-acre estate has been for sale and off market for many years. The 2006 television shows “Mad Men” and “Dreamgirls” used it as their backdrop. In a previous report by Mansion Global, it was advertised in 2015, again in 2018, and for $21.5 million in 2021. It was relisted last October for $12.75 million minus the adjacent 7-acre land with zoning for 10 future homes, according to Mansion Global at the time. At the end of March, the entire estate was relisted.
The home is touted in the listing as having retractable walls that open to the outside, 16-foot ceilings, built-in bookcases, hardwood and zebra cork floors, sparkling white interiors, six bedrooms, and seven bathrooms. In addition to the 1,325 acres of meadowlands at Lake Chatsworth Nature Preserve, it provides views of various mountain ranges.
The main bedroom area is in one wing of the house, while the dining room, kitchen, and three ensuite bedrooms are in the other. Along with a one-bedroom guest house with a private pool and a sizable car court, there is also a gym and pool house.
The 30-year-old Ms. Cyrus also recorded the music video for her popular song “Flowers,” which was made public in January before her full-length album, “Endless Summer Vacation,” was released in March. She had to practically climb up on the roof for the evening footage because it was difficult to see much of the house. However, the entire house and grounds are featured in “Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions),” a 43-minute concert and interview with the singer that was also released last month.
According to public records, the current owner purchased the house in 1998 via a trust for $1.54 million. They couldn’t be reached right away for comment.
